María Pálsdóttir
Position #4
Actress / Entrepreneur
My name is María Pálsdóttir, and I’m from Eyjafjörður. I am a trained actress, teacher, and tour guide. I moved north in 2017 to establish Hælið – a museum and cultural centre dedicated to the history of tuberculosis at Kristnes. I also helped launch Fiðringur in North Iceland, a youth talent competition similar to Skrekkur in Reykjavík.
In addition, I have worked as an actress, director, and teacher, and last year I started offering sauna experiences in Sánuvagn Mæju.
I am married to Ólafur Ingimarsson, and together we have three children and one dog.
I believe it is a civic duty to take part in local government, and I will do everything in my power to help make a good town even better. I want us to safeguard our hospital, take care in urban planning, keep environmental issues high on the agenda, and step up our efforts in culture. I dream of school choirs, school bands, and drama and music education in all primary schools, as well as creative summer jobs for young people, to name a few examples.
A community that nurtures culture, creativity, and its people is a community that thrives.
