Brynja Hlíf Þorsteinsdóttir
Position #2
Town Councillor / Biomedical Scientist
My name is Brynja Hlíf Þorsteinsdóttir, and I was born and raised in Akureyri. I am married to Hjörtur Larsen Þórðarson, and together we have two daughters, aged three and five. Family life has strengthened my interest in children’s issues and in the conditions we create for them in our society.
After completing upper secondary school, I moved to Reykjavík to pursue studies in biomedical science and project management. In 2021, I returned home to Akureyri and began taking an active role in local government.
Today, I serve as Chair of the Environment and Infrastructure Committee and have been a Town Councillor since autumn 2025. In addition, I work as a Project Manager at Arctic Therapeutics.
I have a particular interest in public health and believe that good nutrition is the foundation of health, especially in the early years of life. For this reason, I want to advocate for meals in the town’s preschools and primary schools to be based on fresh, nutritious ingredients, where ultra processed foods have no place.
I am standing for election to contribute to making Akureyri an even better place for children, families, and the community as a whole.
